At Connectr Early Engagement, we believe in the power of data to drive real change. That’s why we were proud to co-host the launch of Natioanl Grid's LPT2 Social Impact Report, celebrating five years of measurable progress through our partnership with National Grid on the London Power Tunnels project.

This wasn’t just a report launch, it was a moment to reflect, recognise and contributeto shared learning. Together with sector employers, educators and programme beneficiaries, we explored how our targeted,data-led engagement has reached 147,000 students across 5 years.

What We Showcased:

  • Quantifiable impact: From STEM workshops and careers talks to immersive work experience, we’ve tracked every interaction to ensure it delivers value.
  • Social mobility in action: Our programmes have reached students from underrepresented backgrounds, helping them build the skills and confidence to shape their futures.
  • Teacher and school supprt: We’ve  amplified our reach by supporting educators directly, ensuring lasting change beyond the student experience.
  • Economic value: The initiative is projected to contribute £6.3 million to economic output by reducing the number of young people falling out of education, employment or training.

Why It Matters: This event was apowerful reminder that impact isn’t just about good intentions, it’s also about evidence. Our data-led approach helps employers meet CSR goals, communicate their impact, and build a future-ready workforce. It also gives educators andstudents the tools they need to thrive.

Summary of Breakout Discussions The breakout sessions focused on refining programme delivery, data strategy, and long-term impact. Key themes included:

  • Purpose & Measurement: Emphasis  on clearly defining the “why” behind initiatives, ensuring they meet beneficiary needs, and making them measurable. Programmes should be flexible and responsive to feedback.
  • Targeting & Data Use:

    • Use of TOMs (Themes, Outcomes, Measures) and FSM/IMD  data to identify and support priority areas.
    •
    • Importance of DEI and social mobility data to tailor programmes, though data collection remains a challenge.
    •
    • Centralised data teams and processes can ensure consistency and accuracy across project
  •
  • Programme Design & Delivery:

    • Programmes should be interactive, hands-on, and adaptable for neurodiverse students.
    •
    • Volunteer engagement strategies include offering roles like school governors for those less comfortable with direct delivery.
    •
    • Examples of successful delivery include WEX placements, speed networking with senior leaders, and showcasing a breadth of roles to students.
  •
  • Legacy & Sustainability:

    • Building a shared pipeline across companies and communities.
    •
    • Upskilling teachers, STEM ambassadors, and community groups to continue impact post-project.
    •
    • Investment in community capacity-building (e.g. bid writing, data protection) to ensure long-term benefits.
  •
  • Client Influence:

    • Client requirements help justify investment in data and programme improvements.
    •
    • Some organisations have successfully used data to enhance accessibility and programme relevance.
